  • In my personal experience, I say not the quick/fast charging but the heat that comes with the quick/fast charging is what really degrades the battery. I have an iphone 7plus that i used for almost 4 years with the adapter(5Watt) and cable that comes with it. And after 4 years, the battery percentage on my 7plus has gone down to 86%. Now, i have an iphone 11pro, which is obviously a replacement for my 7plus that I’ve been using for a year now with the adapter(18Watt) and cable the comes with it. And i just noticed that in just a year, the battery of my 11pro has degraded to 84% compared to my 7plus that took 4 years to degrade to 86%. And to be honest, i was actually harsher to my 7plus cause i remember watching movies and gaming with it while it was charging. I never did that to my 11pro.

  • Yes, thank you for this video I appreciate it. After about a week or so of having and using my Samsung wireless charger, I started to intuitively feel that it wasn't as fast as the wired. Then for months, I started to wonder what is the difference and should I even keep my wireless charger lol. Then a year later, today, I decided to look on MNnews to confirm my intuition and came to this video lol!

  • I just got a new iPad that came with a 20W charger. I have an old iPad from 2014 that came with a 10W charger. Which charger should I charge the new iPad with for least degradation? Is the 10W charger better because it's slower, or is the 20W charger better because it has smarter internals and is the charger the new iPad came with? Anyone have some advice?

That's assuming that you are using the simplest possible methodology. You can also use magnetism which might take up less space once they perfect it.

  • Hi Arun! I think the visual depiction of how a battery works is misleading.. Your explanation is.. well, not exactly exhasutive but it'll do. 1) First of all, the electrons flow between the two electrodes as long as there's a potential difference. It doesn't mean that all electrons flow from negative terminal to positive terminal (This can be a footnote in the video) 2) The visual depiction of 'powers anything along the way' is wrong. The component or the phone in this case, should be placed in between the two terminals. Or, even this way, there should be a wire going from the positive terminal, through the phone and end at the negative terminal. Here, there's no closed circuit. FYI I'm a fan of your videos and your delivery. Just couldn't help but point this out

  • I really liked your content and loved your videos - till I saw this one. See, if you have confidence in a youtuber and build up trust in his content - all gets lost if you have yourself some knowledge in a specific field and recognize that the youtuber is talking bs. Especially, when there are MANY moments in a video where he talks crap. Just to name a few in this one: 03:20 : When electrons would be evenly distributed between positive and negative, there would be no difference... So ZERO Volts and no current. This is called a +dead+ battery, not a 50% one. 05:00 : Crap. If it would be true that Apple reduced the speed of older iPhones to make them last longer, they would have reduced the speed from the beginning for all phones. Additionally, Apple would make the reduced speed an Option, not a force for old phones. Apple-User love their OS, so they would buy a new one if the old one doesn't work any more, so the income from the software-ecosystem wouldn't dimish, either. 05:45 : You say, that slow charging isn't good for your battery. Well, there are _3_ effects working together: 1.) Age of the battery: Batteries degrade with time, no matter how often (or if) you charge them. 2.) Charging itself: Each charge will degrade the battery (but see [3]) 3.) Power of charging: If you charge a battery with C/40, it isn't even considered a charge. As you ramp up the wattage, heat increases, which causes batteries to degrade faster. Instead of explaining the facts, you argue at around 05:20, that apple is clever, because slow charging helps their users - and here you say "Slow charging is good for your battery - I wish this was true". After this I stopped watching, because I couldn't bear it anymore. So I'm really disappointed and asking myself, how often I believed you because I +thought+, that you know what you are talking about. Now I'm depressed - thank you :-(
